29 August | Indianapolis Grand Prix 2010
Wow! We expected the inaugural Indy MotoGP in 2008 to be a bit chaotic. Were we wrong! The experience in hosting large motor sports events (the largest in the world!) of the Indy team really showed, in a superbly organised high-octane venue.
This is the only event in the USA featuring the 125cc and 250cc junior classes, and is also the host of the first of two Riders Cup face-offs between the top American and top European rookies. This was a great race last year; one of several unforgettable moments occurred when rookie Matt Scholtz of South Africa took this bike off track in the mud and went enduro-style; keeping it alive with an incredible save; rejoining the pack; and ultimately taking 2nd! He came by our VIP suite later to give us the second-by-second pilot's view!
Coming in at the tail end of a hurricane, the weather left something to be desired last year! However for those of us in our private VIP suite, we were warm and dry in the top VIP facility of MotoGP! If you are going to spring for one VIP in the year, make it this one -- open paddock access, pit lane walks, 3 day suite, superb catering (professional bar tenders, champagne, caviar and smoked salmon for breakfast I'll have you know!). We were in heaven with our private suite just over the Ducati garage and a straight view to the start grid and the famous 'bricks'.
Grandstand viewing is excellent as well; best value is the Turn 7 terrace (lots of action on this chicane), and the penthouse A at the entrance to the first turn. With good TV views all around, and very liberal access to standing areas this is an great spectator circuit. The facilities, shops, food et al are top notch - something we are coming to expect of the American events.
We also feature 3 different packages permitting you to enjoy the event at the budget and style of your choosing, while still taking advantage of our expert staff and parties! All feature 3 nights (or more) accommodation, breakfast, track transfers and our expert guides on hand. Also all include our Friday opening party, which will feature some guest speakers and the usual food, drink and merriment; this year we had an hilarious address from GP veteran and general bad guy Steve Parrish. We will be trying to top even him in 2009! Saturday night you are on your own, but an expedition to the bike area downtown to ogle the customs and super sports specials will be in order especially when accompanied by a bit of a pub hop! Sunday night we do a winding down dinner in a local restaurant/microbrewery which as always is a great way to close off what is certain to be a memorable weekend of MotoGP!
